Our Curriculum

Intent and Vision

Our curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that is ambitious and meets the needs of all children. Our relevant and enriching curriculum prepares our children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experience of adult life. Our children are taught to be curious, ask questions and to foster a love of learning that carries them into adulthood.

The curriculum ensures that academic success, creativity and problem solving, responsibility and resilience, as well as physical development, well-being and mental health are key elements that support the development of the whole child, promoting a positive attitude to learning. Our curriculum celebrates diversity whilst supporting the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, ensuring that children are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our curriculum is nurturing and aims to promote the all-round development of our children. In addition, it fosters happiness and promotes their well-being, helping them to lead an independent life and become active members of our community.

Implementation

Our curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum and the EYFS Statutory framework and Development Matters.

We want all children to enjoy their time in school, deepening their knowledge and understanding across a wide range of subject areas and topics, taking pleasure from their learning journey and experiencing success along the way. The curriculum is planned and sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before, children are then fully prepared to fully immerse in new learning and challenges.

In order for our curriculum to flourish, there are key threads running through which drive the learning forwards, ensuring our curriculum continues to develop and grow, mirroring the needs of our children.

The Trust has two overarching drivers as follows;

  • Healthy bodies and healthy minds
  • To develop diversity and inclusion

The school developed our drivers as a school community and they lay at the heart of our curriculum.

  1. Broadening Horizons

We are committed to supporting our children to become the best they can possibly be in every aspect of their life. To ensure they experience a wealth of opportunity and develop the key skills of communication, resilience and tolerance so that they feel confident to rise to any challenge and feel proud of their achievements and those of others. Our supportive yet enriching curriculum will give children the confidence to reach their goals both now and in the future.

  1. Love of Learning

Developing a love of learning is an aspiration we have for all of the children in our care, whatever form this learning may take. We take every opportunity to develop our children’s creativity, critical thinking and understanding of challenge in order to ensure they have the skills they need for successful learning, as we know we are more likely to love the things we are good at. We ensure that our learning experiences are enjoyable and relevant, building enthusiasm for learning both now and in the future.

  1. Inspiring Curiosity

In order to learn effectively, children need to be curious learners. Curiosity drives a thirst for knowledge and wanting to find out more. Our curriculum provides opportunities to ask questions and become independent learners.

Impact

Our practice across the school provides a strong foundation and opportunities for children to collaborate and develop social skills both indoors and out

Enjoyment of the curriculum promotes achievement, confidence and good behaviour. Children feel safe to try new things. High quality visits, Forest School and residential visits, further enhance the children’s experience.

Our curriculum provides well-rounded, lifelong learners who are prepare for the challenges and adventures that await them.
